THE jobcentre in Newquay is strengthening its partnerships to create opportunities.

Newquay Jobcentre in East Street is building its ties with local employers and training providers to help people gain skills, access work experience and move into jobs across hospitality, construction and retail.

Fay Fleming-Horner, from the customer experience network in Jobcentres across Devon and Cornwall, said: “Work coaches tell us there’s nothing more rewarding than seeing someone succeed.

“Helping someone go into their first interview with confidence or land their first job is what motivates everyone in the team.

“With tailored support and more time for those who need it most, we’re helping people overcome barriers and develop new skills, changing lives in the process.

“Through wellbeing events, sector-based work academies and bootcamps, we are building strong partnerships and providing support to connect businesses with job-ready candidates bringing employers and jobseekers together and creating clear pathways into work.

“To employers with vacancies, our message is simple. Get in touch. Jobcentre teams can help you recruit the right people quickly.”

A recent Sector-based Work Academy Programme (SWAP) delivered in partnership with Saffron Academy and Robo Canteen provided hands on training and valuable barista skills.

Participants gained real work experience, with several progressing into employment opportunities helping support Newquay’s growing hospitality sector.

Further opportunities are being developed, including a Construction (CSCS) SWAP in June, supporting demand in the building sector.

A youth-focused SWAP with Argyle Community Trust and The Headland Hotel, has created career pathways for young people.

Partnerships with local employers continue to create opportunities for jobseekers following recruitment activity with Trevella Holiday Park while Morrisons Newquay hosted store tours and employer led sessions.

Customers have also received interview preparation from employment advisers, which provide insight into workplaces and help customers prepare for employment.

Newquay Jobcentre is working closely with Truro & Penwith College and Cornwall College, promoting apprenticeship opportunities.
