A MAJOR fire has wrecked a restaurant near St Austell.
The Kingswood Bar and Restaurant at London Apprentice has been devastated by a blaze which started in the kitchen.
Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service was alerted to the fire at just before 2am today.
Crews from St Austell and Mevagissey initially responded to the incident and discovered flames shooting into the air from the building.
They called in the aerial ladder platform from Truro and other firefighters from St Dennis, Fowey and Lostwithiel.
Specialist vehicles including the incident command unit from Launceston, an operational support vehicle from St Austell and a welfare vehicle from Perranporth also went to the scene.
The firefighters have made good progress in tackling the blaze and the incident is scaling down though crews will continue to monitor the situation throughout the day.
