A housing company has submitted plans to build a timber gazebo which would be used for community meetings and events.
Sanctuary Housing wants to erect the structure on land at Mitchell.
Sanctuary has built 37 homes and shop on the site and under the plans for that development was the provision of a potential community facility.
The housing provider has proposed that this should be the gazebo.
A planning statement explains: “As part of a continued consultation and dialogue with the Parish Council surrounding the development of new housing at Mitchell it became apparent there was an absence of local meeting facilities available to the immediate community and residents.
"Parish council members and residents travelled to the adjacent village of St Newlyn to use meeting facilities available there.
“The proposal for Sanctuary to provide community facilities at the site at Mitchell was agreed as part of the wider commitment to transfer the public open space to the parish council.
"The local community will become responsible for the maintenance of the public open space and community facility and in doing so it was agreed that a low maintenance structure would be more suited to the community’s requirements.
“The gazebo proposed will be large enough for sheltered formal and informal meetings and gatherings and yet as a structure minimal in substance and appearance. This ensures minimal visual impact whilst inexpensive to maintain.”
