CHBN, Truro's Community and Hospital Radio Station, has been recognised at the Hospital Broadcasting Association (HBA) annual awards.

The station took the silver award in the ‘Best Special Event’ category with its broadcast of the 75th anniversary celebrations of the NHS, held in the Royal Cornwall Hospital chapel.

The programme was recorded and edited by volunteers Mike Brown, Peter Dowsett and Peter Young, with Four Lanes Male Choir playing a major part in proceedings. Judges described it as "an excellent piece of radio, something listeners would really enjoy".

HBA member stations submitted programmes from last year's output to be judged in 11 different categories of programmes and presenters. The award ceremony took place in Winchester on Saturday, April 13.

This was, by happy coincidence, the tenth anniversary of Truro Hospital Radio receiving its Ofcom Licence to broadcast on 100.8 FM and online, extending its reach to a five-mile radius of the hospital. It is now available via NHS Wi-Fi and the CHBN app.

With its new digitally upgraded studio, CHBN is recruiting new members and will continue serving hospital patients and the wider community with enhanced programming and listener contact.
