One year into my term as your mayor, I’m proud to reflect on the strides we’ve made in putting Newquay’s children and young people at the heart of our community’s future. Too often, their voices are overlooked in politics—but by investing in their opportunities today, we’re shaping a brighter tomorrow for all of Newquay.
From securing funding for Central Newquay’s first-ever play park at Mount Wise Gardens, set to break ground later this year, to safeguarding the future of Newquay Youth Centre alongside Councillors Liz Wright and Sarah Thomson, we’re ensuring our town is a place where young residents can learn, play, and thrive. Yet one of our biggest challenges remains: too many talented young people leave Cornwall due to a lack of local career pathways. That’s why I’m thrilled to highlight an unmissable event this Friday at Newquay Orchard (11:00–16:30), spearheaded by Green Councillor Liz Wright.
Over 30 local businesses will showcase the incredible career opportunities right here in Newquay—from creative industries to cutting-edge trades. It’s a chance for our youth to dream big and stay local. Secondary schools are already bringing students, but it’s never too early to inspire the next generation! Parents: why not swing by after primary pickup and explore the possibilities together? I’ll be there all day—come say hello, meet our brilliant local employers, and help us Empower Newquay’s Future. Let’s keep building a town where every young person has the tools to succeed.
Phil Trebilcock’s Harbour View
The fine weather continues well into the weekend, light SE winds , plenty of sunshine. Very quiet around the harbour regarding visitors, boat trips are quiet. Huge amount of small lobsters around, throwing back at least 50 a day, they have approximately 3 years to grow yet for legal size to keep, think lot are from Hatchery in Padstow. This Saturday “Off the Wall “ are playing at Rowing Club, 9 pm. Thought for the Week “Live for what today has to offer, not what yesterday has taken away “
