New plans have been revealed to refurbish a Grade II listed pub and build eight new homes next to it.
Wayne Brown has submitted a planning application to build the homes next to The Packhorse Inn in St Blazey.
Under the plans the pub would be renovated, refurbished and extended with separate applications seeking planning approval and listed building consent.
In addition the application seeks permission for the new residential development, stating that it would be “rounding off” as the site is surrounded by development on three sides.
The application seeks to add a new extension to the pub which would provide a new restaurant area.
The application states that the pub, like many in the industry, has had to find new ways of generating income.
A design and access statement explains: “In short, the business has been forced to change, or it will cease to trade.
“It’s worth noting that most other public houses survive by benefitting from a number of strands to their business, such as wet drinks sales, food, and visitor accommodation.
“The Packhorse Inn currently has no food offering and no visitor accommodation.”
The new homes would be built to the rear of the pub and would include six three-bedroom properties and two four-bedroom homes. All would be open market properties.
The proposals are among the latest planning applications received by Cornwall Council.
Every week more than 100 applications are validated by Cornwall Council.
All planning applications submitted to the council have to be validated and are available for inspection by the public.
Anyone is also allowed to submit comments about the applications – whether in support or objection.
The majority of planning applications are decided by council planning officers under delegated powers.
However some applications will go before elected councillors who sit on planning committees.
No dates have been set for when the application will be determined.
It can be viewed by going to the planning portal on Cornwall Council’s website at cornwall.gov.uk/planning-and-building-control/ under application number PA22/10371.
