A Cornish-based Royal Marine has produced another incredible endurance feat.

Sam Hammond hit the headlines last year for lugging a 60lb fridge to the top of Wales’ three highest peaks to raise money for SSAFA, the Armed Forces Charity.

But now the 29-year-old from Redruth, who is based at RNAS Culdrose, has backed that up by running the Brighton Half Marathon with the fridge.

He had set a target to run under two hours and 45 minutes, but he completely smashed that goal by finishing the 13.1-mile event in two hours and four minutes, which he hopes will have secured him a Guinness World Record.

He said: “It was really good, there was a lot of incredible support every step of the way.

“I pushed the pace in the last three miles, and I certainly felt it.”

He will also be running the London marathon later this year with the fridge, which he has named “Fridget Jones”.
