THE historic harbour was alive and buzzing with atmosphere for Newquay RNLI’s annual Lifeboat Day on Saturday.

The event got underway with the charity's D class lifeboats being towed behind Newquay Samba Band for a parade through the town centre and down to the harbour.

There were the usual popular stalls and Newquay and Padstow Lifeboat volunteers wowed the crowd with a spectacular boat demonstration. RNLI lifeguards also held a demonstration showcasing their lifesaving techniques.

The final event of the day was the Walker Cup gig race between Newquay Lifeboat Station and Newquay Rowing Club. The lifeboat crew took the win following a competitive race.

Lifeboat operations manager Ian Pengelly said: “It was another great and successful lifeboat day, and we cannot thank everyone enough for coming along and supporting Newquay RNLI.”
