A HOME care provider based in Perranwell Station, near Truro, is celebrating after receiving an outstanding rating from the Care Quality Commission (CQC) following its first inspection in April.

Domiciliary care agency Loyal Bee Care, run by Loyal Bee Care Group Ltd, provides personal care to people living in their own homes. The service was rated as “outstanding” for being caring and well-led, with “good” ratings for being safe, effective and responsive.

Inspectors said the caring nature of staff and leaders “went well beyond what would be expected”. As an example, they singled out a person receiving end-of-life care who wished to spend their final moments at home, but without the funding to cover 24-hour care; Loyal Bee Care staff and leaders set up their own volunteer rota to cover three weeks so the client wouldn’t have to be alone.

At the time of inspection, 40 people were using the service. Inspectors found they were supported by Loyal Bee Care staff in small teams who knew them well and understood their individual needs, meaning they felt safe with their care staff.

Staff were consistently on time for visits and were flexible to suit people’s needs, demonstrating patience and attentiveness, especially towards those with complex situations. Care staff had a working knowledge of current best practice, risks to safety were identified and mitigated, and the service protected people from abuse.

Inspectors praised registered managers and staff for working in an “exceptionally coordinated and proactive” way with health and social care partners to support service users to achieve their goals and aspirations.

Stefan Kallee, CQC deputy director of adult social care for the South West, said: “At our inspection, we found an exceptional service that prioritised safety, dignity, independence and personalised support. Feedback from relatives highlighted how their loved ones were able to live a better quality of life.

“The excellence of the service wasn’t just noticed by our inspectors; external healthcare professionals provided glowing feedback, and Loyal Bee Care has received a nomination from Cornwall’s Proud to Care Awards.

“Everyone at Loyal Bee Care should be really pleased with this outstanding rating, which reflects the hard work and commitment of staff. Other services should look to this report to see what they can learn.”

In a joint statement, registered managers Laura Angell and Tammy Etherington and deputy manager George Harrison said: “We are immensely proud of this achievement, which reflects the compassion and dedication shown every day by our incredible team.

“We are deeply grateful to our staff, clients and their families for their trust, partnership and belief in what we do. This rating recognises not only the quality of care but also the values that guide us and a relentless focus on continuous improvements.

“Loyal Bee Care will continue to champion high quality home care across Cornwall, and we are excited for the next chapter as we continue to raise standards across the sector.”

The report will be published on CQC’s website immiunently.
