A FAMILY of life-sized willow sculptures leaning into the wind has been installed at the National Trust’s Trengwainton Garden, near Penzance, to mark the impact of Storm Goretti as the garden looks ahead to the next stage of its recovery.

Created by artist Katherine Miles, the three figures depict a man and woman holding onto their hats and a child with a billowing scarf, all braced against a strong wind. They have been placed in an area that suffered significant tree loss when winds in excess of 90mph struck on the evening of January 8, 2026.

More than 150 trees were brought down, left damaged or unstable, and the garden team has since undertaken the delicate task of removing fallen and damaged trees while protecting Trengwainton’s internationally significant plant collection. Replanting is due to begin in October and will continue throughout the winter and into spring.

Trengwainton’s 2026 season continues until the garden closes for the winter on November 1.
