Mayor Cllr Drew Creek presented the cups and certificates to residents and businesses who won in various categories which included wildlife friendly garden, vegetable garden courtyard garden and cottage garden.

He also gave a short talk on various horticultural initiatives in the town, which include Trenance Community Forest planting taking place later this year, measures being taken to improve Trenance Lake and reduce algal regrowth and construction of a new play area in part of Mount Wise Gardens.

Newquay in Bloom secretary Lesley Friel said: “An enjoyable and well attended evening rounded off with the drawing of the winning raffle tickets along with the winner of the Lakeside Café Bubbly Cream Tea voucher drawn from the names of all who had entered this year’s competition. Thanks also to L&K travel and Atlantic View café who donated raffle prizes.

“Special mention should be made of Sue Gray and her daughter Vicky whose work at the Wellbeing Garden in St Columb Minor really impressed the judges and was awarded the Newquay in Bloom overall award of merit for this year.
“Congratulations and very well done to everyone for their achievements and awards. Keep up your good work as it is so important that we continue to enhance the appearance, environment and biodiversity of our town.”
