FOURTEEN teams took on an epic tuk tuk challenge in Cornwall last week to raise vital funds in the fight against rabies.

The Rabies Rally, held between September 8 to 11, is a daring expedition that tests the skills, camaraderie, and determination of those taking part.

The rally was launched in 2023 by Worldwide Veterinary Service (WVS), the Cornwall-based international veterinary charity, and raises money for Mission Rabies, the WVS project that vaccinates dogs and teaches children how to stay safe in the worst affected parts of the world.

This year’s challenge began with all participants being locked inside Bodmin Jail. To get out, teams had to work together to beat a game built around the night in 1885 when Louis Pasteur first used a rabies vaccine.

After escaping the jail, teams then hit the roads of Cornwall in their tuk tuks, iconic three-wheeled vehicles that are frequently used during the charity’s global vaccination projects.

Teams navigated checkpoints, solved puzzles and tackled a series of challenges as they headed from the north of Cornwall to the south, before completing the adventure at Pendennis Castle, Falmouth.

The Code Breakers were crowned as Rabies Rally champions, with Feral Flyers taking second and Rogue Renegades third. The winning team will now have the chance to join Mission Rabies on a volunteer campaign anywhere in the world.
