A road closure has been given the green light whilst month long upgrade work is being carried out on the gas network in St Columb Major.

Wales & West Utilities will be working on the gas network in the Newquay Road area between Monday, September 29 and Friday, October 24.

The gas emergency and pipeline service has liaised with Cornwall Council as part of the works and it has been agreed that traffic management will be in place throughout, which includes multi-way traffic lights on Newquay Road starting at the junction with Fair Street and Station Road from September 29 to October 24.

A road closure on Trekenning Road from the junction of Newquay Road and Trekenninig Point will be in place between September 29 and October 17.

Natalie Raphael, who is managing the works for Wales & West Utilities, said the upgrades are essential to keep the gas flowing reliably to heat and power local homes and businesses, keeping people warm for generations.

She said: “While most of the gas network is underground and out of sight, it plays a central role in the daily lives of people across the wider area. Whether it’s heating your home, making the family dinner or having a hot bath, we understand how important it is for your gas supply to be reliable and there when you need it.

“We know that working in areas like this is not ideal, but it is essential to make sure we keep the gas flowing to homes and businesses in the area, and to make sure the gas network is fit for the future.
