A community hall in Truro has sustained significant damage following a fire that broke out at the building yesterday evening (Monday, September 15).

Firefighters were called to St Clement’s Hill at around 5.25pm to deal with the blaze at the Trelander and St Clements Community Hall.

It is believed that the fire originated from the ground floor before spreading. Crews extinguished the blaze and were due to return to the incident this morning (September 16) for further investigations.

Residents living nearby are advised to keep doors and windows shut due to smoke in the area.

While crews were putting the fire out, a Cornwall Fire and Rescue spokesperson said: “Fire Control received multiple 999 calls at 5.25pm to a fire at the Community Centre in Trelander, Truro.

“The fire is believed to have originated on the ground floor but has spread to the roof void. The attendance has escalated in accordance with the severity of the incident and there are currently six appliances, an aerial ladder platform and a BA support vehicle on scene.

“Crews are using four sets of breathing apparatus and three hose reel jets to tackle the fire. Members of the public in the vicinity are being warned to keep doors and windows closed to avoid smoke plumes.”
