Top to a Charolais heifer from Messrs F A Pearce & Partners of Chacewater, Truro at 400p/kg (£2,372), followed by a weighty 710kg South Devon heifer from Mr A L Pascoe of Fraddam, Hayle at 390p/kg (£2,769) and a 609kg South Devon heifer from Mr D Jenkin of Manaccan, Helston at 375p/kg.

Another pair of heifers next at 370p/kg and 358p/kg, being a 728kg South Devon from Messrs H C & R E Curtis of St Agnes, Truro and the latter a Limousin from Messrs Pearce.

Steers to 354p/kg for a South Devon from Messrs F T & F M Johns of Cury, Helston and an 811kg South Devon steer from Messrs R D & D A Gendall of Cury Cross Lanes, Helston at 348p/kg and top pounds-per-head of £2,822.

Cull Cows

A similar size and quality entry as previous weeks, with a good trade for those best sorts.

Top to 325p/kg for a Devon cow from Mr R E Richards of St Keverne, Helston and a pair of cow-aged steers featuring next with a South Devon from Messrs R D & D A Gendall of Cury Cross Lanes, Helston at 318p/kg and a Charolais from Mr D M Dunn of Stithians, Truro at 315p/kg.

A smart 742kg Angus cow from Messrs K P & A Sowden of Constantine, Falmouth parted away at 300p/kg (£2,226) and a 780kg Angus cow from Mr D Jenkin of Manaccan, Helston at 295p/kg (£2,301).

A pair of Charolais cows from Mr B Cowell of Helston then traded at 293p/kg and 279p/kg and a pair of South Devon cows from Laity Farms of Gwinear, Hayle at 271p/kg (£1,954) and 251p/kg (£2,013).

Top dairy type to 249p/kg for a Friesian cow from Mr J Wilkinson of Constantine, Falmouth, a pair of Friesian cows from Messrs C J & P H George of Tresillian, Truro at 238p/kg and 229p/kg and an Ayrshire cow from Messrs Packer & Rowe of Old Kea, Truro well in the mix at 236p/kg.

A single 968kg Devon cull bull from Mr R E Richards sold away at 275p/kg and £2,662.

Store Cattle

A vast entry of 312 through the ring selling to a top call of £2220 for a fine 22-month-old Limousin steer on behalf of Mr A S Ball of Bodmin who sold further Limos of the same age to £2070, followed by a 27-month-old Friesian cross from Mr D Rounsevell of Veryan, Truro at £2185.

A smart bunch of 20-month-old Shorthorn steers from Mr A J Jelbert of Mitchell, Newquay realised £2105, followed by Mr F Brent of Linkinhorne with 2-year-old Herefords to £2055 and Angus to £2000. Blue steers to £2010 on behalf of Messrs W W James & Sons of Sancreed, Penzance.

Younger steers selling to a phenomenal £2200 for a cracking trio of 13-month-old Blues on behalf of Mr N Doble of St Agnes followed by 15-month-old Angus steers from Messrs J H Pellow & Sons of Carnhell Green, Camborne at £2105.

Further young Blues to £1755 on behalf of Mr N Doble followed by young Devons from Mr F Brent to £1485 and £1470.

Heifers selling to £2040 on behalf of Mr S Arthur of Truro followed by 2-year-old Limos from Mr A S Ball to £2020 with Messrs W W James & Sons close behind at £2000 and £1940.

A 27-month-old Blue heifer from Mr R T Dunn of Par, St Austell achieved £1955, followed by further Herefords from Mr S Arthur to £1875 and Herefords from Mr W H F Harvey of Lanivet, Bodmin at £1790.

Young heifers topping at £1700 on behalf of Mr N Doble, whilst James Eustice Farms of Wadebridge sold a classy bunch of five 1-year-old Angus heifers to £1505 and Mr C R Broom of St Mawgan, Newquay sold Angus heifers to £1420.

Further 1-year-old heifers from James Eustice Farms to £1380 for South Devons and £1280 for Angus.

Rearing Calves

Another fast trade for calves and stirks at Truro, with a top quality entry all looking very well sold.

Best month-old Limousin from Messrs M J & R M Tremayne of Constantine, Falmouth topping the bulls at £655, with a pair of month-old Angus bulls from Mr P S Best of St Newlyn East, Newquay at £590 and £565 and a month-old Blue bull from Mr J Wilkinson of Constantine, Falmouth at £580.

A quality month-old Hereford bull from Messrs A & B Pascoe of North Country, Redruth at £555 and slightly older Hereford bulls from Messrs J R, P M & D W Treleaven of Trenarren, St Austell at £550 thrice, tied with a month-old Blue bull from Mr Wilkinson at the same money.

Heifers also topped at £570 by a month-old Blue from Messrs Tremayne, a month-old Blue from Mr Wilkinson at £500 twice, a 3 m.o Angus heifer from Messrs T J & C M Dauncey of St Just, Penzance at £460 and young Hereford heifers from Messrs Pascoe trading at £375.

A cracking run of well reared older calves and stirks saw strong demand and bidding, topped at £975 twice for a pair of 6 m.o Blue steers from Messrs N J Cox & H Floyd of Tregony, Truro.

Younger weaned Blue steers at 3 ½-months-old from W P & J Jenkin Ltd of St Martin, Helston looking a serious trade at £835 x 7 and a trio at £680. Heifers to £850 for another good Blue from Cox & Floyd.

Finished Hoggetts

Exceptionally strong prices across the board and up again after last week’s flyer. An overall average of £180.30.

The powerful heavies commanding top money, with eight pens over £200 and a smart run of Charollais x hoggs from Mr R Bailey of Frogpool selling two quality pens at £211 and both sold to Messrs J V Richards Ltd of Perranwell Station.

New Season Lamb

A storming trade from start to finish and many more could have been sold on the trade.

Demand building week on week with a top price of £193.50 for a large pen of 42.5kg Dorset lambs from Messrs M G & T A Tuckett of Par, sold to Messrs R J Trevarthen Ltd of Roskrow, with a second pend from the same farm close behind at £192.50.

This week’s market included Truro’s Special Easter Prize Sale with prizes awarded to the top price 3 pens in pence per kilo (minimum 4 in a pen).

Cull Ewes

A lighter entry of ewes with few continentals forward this week, however trade remaining exceptionally strong.

Top call of £228 for a Suffolk x Charollais ewe from Messrs R & J Bailey of Frogpool, Truro. Further Suffolk and Suffolk x to £185 for Messrs Trewithick Farm Partnership of Breage, Helston and £161 for Mr T D Retallick of Talskiddy, St Columb.

Further Charollais and Charollais x to £177 for Mr A W Nicholls of Chacewater, Truro and £154 again for Messrs Bailey. Texel to £171 and £170 for Messrs C R Elliott & Partners of Portloe, Truro.

Dorset to £158 for Messrs A M & V R Pascoe of Sithney, Helston. Cull rams to £180 for a Texel again from Messrs Pascoe.

Sheep (2T) to £159.50 for Mr T Hall of Bodmin followed closely by a single from Mr R A Coade of Cubert, Newquay at £158.50.

Store Sheep

A short run but mainly forward types selling to a £135 average.

Dearest to £144 on behalf of Trewithick Farm Partnership of Helston, followed by Mr T Hall with hogs to £142 and £140.

A smart pen from Hillside Farm Partnership of Truro realised £139.50 followed by Mr R S T Halliday of Liskeard at £137.

A tremendous consignment of Charollais x couples from Mr G Nickells of Fourlanes, Redruth sold on a fierce trade with singles realising £272 and £260 and doubles to £385, £380 and £360.
