Prime Cattle
An improved number of clean cattle with a similar trade prevailing although premium quality was limited.
Nevertheless, some cracking steers and heifers amongst the entry with top price for a super black Limx steer from F G Pryor & Son Ltd of Perranwell at 385p/kg and £2722.
A higher gross price at £2856 for a Limx heifer at 375p/kg from R H Eddy Ltd of Tehidy. We welcomed Messrs M K & C M Barrett of St Tudy as a new vendor with three nicely finished young black Limx bullocks selling well.
Cull Cows
A similar tight entry as the previous week contained the usual mix of beef and dairy types with top honours going to Messrs G G & J M Jenkin of Wendron selling a heavy Angus cow at 305p/kg and £2562 followed closely by a Charolais from F G Pryor & Son Ltd of Perranwell also at 305p/kg and £2409.50.
Other notable beef cows at 285p/kg for an Angus from Messrs C H Bird & Son of Reawla and Devons to 276p/kg and £2206 from Messrs N J G & A M Polglase of St Just.
Top of the dairy types 264p/kg for a young Jersey from Messrs Nicholls & Co, Scorrier and 251p/kg for a Friesian from Mr J Wilkinson of Constantine.
A weighty Parthenaise x bull from Mr L Mann of Tresahor, Falmouth sold at 264p/kg and £2608.
Store Cattle
A slightly lighter entry though stand on trade which saw steers top at £2255 for a single 25-month-old Blonde on behalf of Messrs P Kingdon & Sons of St Newlyn East, followed by a 1½-year-old Limousin from Messrs J H Pellowe & Sons of Carnhell Green, Camborne at £2160.
A pair of 2-year-old Angus steers from Messrs J F & K L Worden of Breage, Helston realised £2110, followed by strong steers from Messrs C H Bird & Son of Hayle to £2100 and £2070.
1½-year-old steers from Messrs W W James & Sons of Sancreed, Penzance achieved £2025 twice, followed by a trio of 26-month-old Herefords from Jelbert Bros of Newbridge, Penzance at £2020.
Younger steers to £2005 for a single 13-month-old Angus on behalf of Messrs J H Pellowe & Sons who sold a further steer to £1890, followed by a top-quality bunch of nine 1-year-old Angus steers to £1715 on behalf of Mr W C Bottrell of Sancreed, Penzance.
Further Angus steers from Mr Bottrell to £1680 with a 1-year-old Angus from Messrs R G, E J & G A Williams of St Martin, Helston to £1660. 1-year-old Angus steers also to £1535 and £1505 on behalf of Mr G T Stone of Carleen, Helston.
Heifers selling to £1945 for a strong 2-year-old single Blue from Messrs J F & K L Worden, followed by a fine South Devon to £1870 on behalf of Messrs H C & R E Curtis of St Agnes who sold a younger South Devon to £1800 thereafter.
£1800 also achieved by Messrs W W James & Sons for a single 2-year-old Blue, followed by Messrs J F & K L Worden again at £1785 and Neil Rowe Farming Ltd of The Lizard, Helston at £1765.
Best of the young heifers to £1580 on behalf of Neil Rowe Farming Ltd, whilst Messrs R G, E J & G A Williams sold a pair of smart 13-month-old Limos to £1460.
Young Angus heifers to £1305 on behalf of Mr W C Botterell, followed by young South Devons from Messrs D R & J C Vincent & Son of Tregavethan, Truro at £1300.
Rearing Calves
A lighter entry of calves although a stand on trade to report, with buyers keen to source calves and many more could have been sold.
Top price of £700 for the best 3m.o Angus steer from Messrs W R Davey of Probus, Truro, with a 2-month-old Blue bull from Messrs M J & R M Tremayne of Constantine, Falmouth at £680 and their pair of good 2-month-old Limo bulls at £590 & £530.
Young month-old Angus bulls to £495 for Messrs Searle & Son of Rosudgeon, Penzance. Good quality month old Blue bulls from Mr J Wilkinson of Constantine, Falmouth to £495 as well.
Heifers topping out at £500 for a sweet young Charolais from Messrs H L, T & C Lyne of St Clement, Truro, with a 3-month-old Blue heifer from Mr Davey at £440 and a month-old Blue heifer from Mr Wilkinson at £430.
The best Angus heifers tied at £405 for both an animal from Messrs Searle & Son and Messrs J A Sweet & Partners of St Newlyn East, Newquay.
A 2-month-old Limousin heifer from Messrs Tremayne at £400 tied with a good pair of month-old Angus heifers from Messrs J A Sweet & Partners.
An outstanding run of stirks saw the best pair of shapey Blue steers, at only 6-month-old, from Messrs N J Cox & H Floyd of Tregony, Truro sail away to £1030, with their other Blue steers at £920 & £800 and their single heifer at £675.
Finished Hoggetts
Outstanding prices once again selling to a top call of £204 for a 64kg single hogg on behalf of Messrs P J Grylls & Sons of Kenwyn, Truro, with Messrs Grylls going on to sell a further top-quality pen to £197.50.
A superb consignment of medium weights from Mr S G Collins of St Newlyn East, Newquay saw pens realise 393p/kg, 388p/kg and 380p/kg.
New Season Lamb
Another strong trade from start to finish though a short entry and many more could have been sold.
A top price of £186 for a cracking trio of Dorsets on behalf of Trevedra Farm Partnership of Penzance, purchased by Messrs R J Trevarthen Ltd of Roskrow, with a further pen from the same farm realising £180.
Leading p/kg achieved by Mr T J Ham of Baldhu, Truro, at 459p/kg, purchased by Messrs L C Farms Ltd of Hatherleigh.
Well presented Suffolk x lamb in from Mr S G Parkin of Whitemoor, St Austell, selling to £178.50 and £178 twice.
Cull Ewes
A better entry with a flying trade across the board, yet many more required to satisfy buyer demand.
Prices peaked at £209 for a medium bodied, good confirmation Texel ewe from Messrs P J Grylls & Sons of Truro; followed by the best of a run from Messrs P T R & P E Jones & Son of Crantock, Newquay selling to £190 and £180.
Suffolk x to £179 for Mr M A Grigg of Sticker, St Austell. Charollais x to £171 for Mr N Ferris of Penryn.
Poll Dorset to £169 for Messrs Laity Farms of Gwinear, Hayle; £164 for Messrs A J & A C Kingdon of Gummows Shop, Newquay; and £159 for Messrs W & R Taffinder of Ruan High Lanes, Truro.
Suffolk Mules to £168 for Mr E J Tuckett of Par. Lleyn to £162 for Mr D Searle of Wendron, Helston. North of England Mules to £161 again for Mr Grigg. Rams to £189.50 for a Texel again from Messrs Grylls.
Lleyn rams to £179 and £160 again for Mr Searle and Dorset rams to £169.50 for Mrs J Williams of Truro and £167 again for Messrs Kingdon. Sheep (2T) to £173 and £169 for Texel x from Mrs S Chandler of Helston.
Store Sheep
A short sharp entry selling to £143 for a strong pen from Hillside Farm Partners of Chacewater, Truro who sold further lots to £133 and £129, followed by Mr N Thurley of Helston at £127.
A smart run of couples from Mr N Ferris of Penryn topped at £220 for singles and £280 twice for doubles.
