Yet more good quality Prime Cattle forward this week, with a stand-on trade seen.

Heifers in first place at 408p/kg (£2,803) for a 687kg Limousin from Mr R H Eddy of Tehidy, Camborne, with a Limousin steer from Messrs R G, E J & G A Williams of St Martin, Helston next at 400p/kg (£2,736).

A single 712kg Limousin steer from Mr N J Bennetts of Zelah, Truro parted away at 388p/kg (£2,736) and a heavyweight 835kg Limousin steer from Mr Eddy traded at 372p/kg (£3,106).

OTM steers topped at 370p/kg (£2,449) for a 662kg Charolais from Messrs E A & A R Thomas of Sevenmilestone, Truro.

Cull Cows

The cull trade holding firm in-line with the finished prices, topping at 310p/kg (£2,244) for a 724kg middle-aged Blue heifer from Mr M B Cattran of Prospidnick, Helston, with further Blue heifers from the same farm at 309p/kg (£2,373) and 308p/kg (£2,097).

A pair of Shorthorn cows from Fentongollan Farms of Tresillian, Truro looked well sold at 300p/kg and 290p/kg, with a Hereford cow from Mr M Allen of Belowda, Roche at 268p/kg.

Limited dairy types to 233p/kg for a Friesian cow from Messrs M J & R M Tremayne of Constantine, Falmouth and a Friesian cow from Messrs C J & P H George of Tresillian, Truro at 225p/kg thereafter.

A single monstrous Angus cull bull from Mr A G Tilly of Crowlas, Penzance weighed in at 1350kg and sold for 252p/kg and £3,402!

Store Cattle

Yet another high-quality entry and strong trade to match which saw steers top at £2465 for a premium trio of 2-year-old South Devons on behalf of Messrs J R Stephens & Son of St Winnow, Lostwithiel, followed by Limousins from Mr W E Hosken of Manaccan, Helston at £2400 and £2010.

Messrs J & J Sawle & Son of St Agnes, Truro sold classy Limousins to £2385 and £2195, whilst Messrs J F & K L Worden of Breage, Helston sold a pair of 2-year-old Angus steers to £2340, Blues to £2090 and Limousins to £2055.

Smart 2-year-old steers also in from Messrs P & P Tullett of Tregony, Truro at £2215 and £2010.

Younger steers selling to £1875 on behalf of Mr M B Cattran of Prospidnick, Helston, followed by Mr J F Rowe of Par, St Austell at £1710, with further young Limos from Mr Cattran to £1625.

11-month-old Hereford steers from Mr M Allen of Belowda, Roche to £1550 and £1480.

Young Simmental steers from Messrs E T Noy & Sons of Porkellis, Helston and Messrs R A F, R M & R A Roberts of Gweek, Helston to £1430 and £1390 respectively.

A super trade for heifers saw a pair of 2-year-old Limousins from Messrs J & J Sawle & Son to £2130, followed by 2-year-olds from Messrs J F & K L Worden to £2050 for Blues, £1830 for Limos and £1800 for Angus.

A 1½-year-old Limo from Mr W E Hosken achieved £1710, followed by a pair of 2-year-old Herefords from Mr K Bottrell of Newbridge, Penzance at £1700.

Young heifers to £1480 on behalf of Mr M Allen. Cows and calves to £1580 on behalf of Messrs G E R & C E R James of Rosudgeon, Penzance, whilst Mr B Cowell of Wendron, Helston sold Simmental suckler cows to £1810, £1780 and £1470.

Rearing Calves

A good overall entry of strong calves forward met with a high demand and prices to match.

Top of the younger calves to £670 for a strong 3 m.o Blue bull from Messrs S S Parker & Son of Callestick, Truro, followed by a pair of smart 2 m.o Limousin steers from Neil Rowe Farming Ltd of The Lizard, Helston at £610 twice.

A single 2 m.o Limousin bull calf from Messrs M & J Rowe of Ashton, Helston at £600 and another 2 m.o Limo steer from Neil Rowe at £575 thereafter, tied with a good 10 week old Blue steer from Messrs C J & J E Colwell of Grampound, Truro at the same money.

A shapey month-old Blue bull from Messrs M J & R M Tremayne of Constantine, Falmouth parted away at £560, with other good month-old Limousin bulls from Messrs S M & J Blee of St Martin, Helston at £525 and top Hereford bull of the day also to £525 from Messrs J R, P M & D W Treleaven of Trenarren, St Austell.

Heifers to £525 for a month-old Limo from Messrs Blee, 2 m.o Blue heifers from Neil Rowe at £485 and a 3 m.o Hereford heifer to £465 from Messrs Treleaven.

Another month-old Limousin heifer from Messrs Blee at £460, a 2 m.o Hereford heifer tied at the same money from Messrs Treleaven, a 2 m.o Limousin heifer from Messrs M & J Rowe at £455 and another 3 m.o Hereford heifer from Messrs Treleaven at the same money.

A good entry of stirks presented topped at £805 for a single Angus steer from Messrs N J Cox & H Floyd of Tregony, Truro, with a 6 m.o Limousin steer from Messrs M & J Rowe at £715 and a pair of 4 m.o Angus steers from Messrs R, N W G & P J Worden of Gunwalloe, Helston at £595.

Heifer stirks to £750 x 4 and £650 x 2 for 6 m.o Angus and Limousins from Messrs Rowe and a single 6 m.o Angus heifer from Cox & Floyd at £640.

Finished Hoggetts

A lively trade for all on offer, with an overall average of £152.50/head.

Topping the averages at 352p/kg for a 43kg Charollais x hogg from Messrs S B & M Tonkin of Par, St Austell sold to L C Farms Ltd of Hatherleigh, Devon.

Also high in the averages from a run of three pens from Mr J A Tripconey of St Keverne, Helston with his 42.6kg hoggs selling at 345p/kg, purchased by R J Trevarthen Ltd of Roskrow, Penryn.

Topping the heavies at £175 for 69.5kg Dorset hoggs from Mr D J Lobb of Polgooth, St Austell sold to J V Richards Ltd of Perranwell Station, Truro.

Cull Ewes

Yet another flying trade for cull ewes with buyers seeking many more to satisfy requirements.

Top call for the best of a run of Charollais ewes from Mr T Blake of St Stephen, St Austell selling to £213 and £195.

Texels to £196 for Messrs T B & M B Osborne of St Eval, Wadebridge; £188 and £182 again from Mr Blake; £171 and £158 from Messrs M A & C Sandbach of St Breock, Wadebridge and £157 from Mr J A Tripconey of St Keverne, Helston.

Suffolks to £164.50 for a single from Mr K R Williams of Tehidy, Camborne. Dorsets to £160 and £155 again from Mr Blake; and £152.50 for Mr B Lugg of Cury Cross Lanes, Helston. Rams to £158 for a Texel again from Messrs Osborne.

2T (Sheep) to £144 again from Mr Blake. A single full mouth nanny goat (51kg) forward from Messrs J C Eddy & Son of Kehelland, Camborne sold for £129.

Store Sheep

A cracking trade with an overall average of £123, topping at £140.50 for a weighty single from Mr D Wall of Ludgvan, Penzance further lambs from Mr Wall to £139.50, £134.50 and £127, whilst Mr M J Brown of Praze-an-Beeble, Camborne sold singles to £140 and £120.

A big consignment from Mr C J Allen of Penwithick, St Austell saw pens to £129.50, £119 and £117.50.
