THE traditional egg and bacon pie competition held each year in Newquay went down a treat on Sunday.

Local celebrity John Harris was given the difficult task of judging the winner at Newquay Rowing Club.

Derek Applewhite was awarded first place, Lucy Emmett second and Simon Osborne in third.

Phil Trebilcock from the rowing club said: “Another great year for the annual egg and bacon pie competition!

“A huge thank you to everyone who took part, once again, the standard of entries was very high and tough to judge.

“With so many incredible pies to choose from, it wasn’t an easy task.

“After the judging, everyone got to try a slice of the traditional Cornish fare in support of Children’s Hospice South West

“Well done to all our bakers.”
