YONKERS St Ives will host a free pop-up youth music event in Trewyn Gardens on Saturday, June 28.

Suitable for all the family this relaxed and low-key event will showcase local youth talent and some fantastic original music.

Emma Gibson, head of culture and community at St Ives Town Council, said: “Opening the show at 11.30, we are pleased to welcome guest performers, a well-travelled choir with supporting band from Nottingham, follow by an exciting line up of local musicians. We hope the town gets behind the talented young performers and this first event of this kind in Trewyn.”

Councillor Johnnie Wells, mayor of St Ives, added: “Amazing to see Yonkers St Ives empowering young musicians, both local and visiting. Creating a vibrant event for the community in Trewyn Gardens, is exactly what we keep these spaces for and its great to see young people getting involved. Good luck and let’s have a good day”

Yonkers St Ives, the youth arm of St Ives Town Council, has been working with several talented local young people to record original music. Musicians from St Ives aged 16 to 25 were given the opportunity to spend four hours recording music they had written themselves.

The whole project would not be possible without the skills and enthusiasm of Tom Harding, who brought his equipment and know how to the sessions which took place at the Edward Hain in February.

Tom is studying music at Penwith College, but there is not much he doesn’t already know, as he demonstrated by providing a “professional and welcoming service”, recording three pieces of original music and two pieces written and performed by himself.
