A local collaboration brings exciting aerial adventures to National Maritime Museum Cornwall (NMMC), promising to delight families this summer.
Inspired by SURF!, NMMC’s major new exhibition launched this year, local dance companies Off the Wall and Cscape have devised an exhilarating aerial show, Wipeout, performed three times a day, every day throughout the summer holidays.
Bursting with high-energy aerial dance, humour, and seaside vibes, Wipeout offers a fun-filled experience for the whole family.
NMMC has also teamed up with Surfers Against Sewage to run a special Ocean School. Families can get involved in a range of interactive activities as a fun way to take action for the ocean.
Visitors can get hands-on in the Museum’s Make and Take craft zone, where little ones can create their own surfing creature, ocean animal sun visor, or wand to wave. Open daily from 12.30pm to 3.30pm (last entry 3.15pm).
For those who enjoy a challenge, the Food Chain Museum Trail invites families to explore the galleries and discover more about the thousands of animals that live in UK waters - available every day from 10am to 5pm.
Families can also take a breather in the Waterside Café, where little ones can stay entertained with a Voice of the Ocean poster colouring activity, running daily between 10am and 5pm.
New for 2025, a Mindful Space in the Lecture Theatre will be open all day, providing a quiet retreat for those who need it. Those who complete all of the Ocean School activities will be awarded an Ocean Activist certificate at the admissions desk.
Stuart Slade, head of public programming at the museum comments: “We’re delighted to be partnering with such incredible companies and charities this summer. These collaborations will bring fulfilling, educational, and of course, fun activities for the whole family.
“The aerial show is truly brilliant – surfers suspended in the air, incredible and daring movement metres above the ground, and something for all the family.”
Wipeout will be performed daily at 11am, 1pm, and 3pm, with Relaxed Wipeout sessions every Sunday at 11am.
