Tourism businesses in the Duchy have proved they provide some of the best service in the region.

There were numerous Cornish winners of gold, silver and bronze accolades at the South West Tourism Excellence Awards held at the Eden Project on Thursday.

Seascape Escape at the Old Coach House at Windsworth in Looe was awarded gold in the Better Environment Award and Higher Pendeen Camping at Mawgan Porth won silver.

The Idle Rocks Restaurant at St Mawes received gold in the restaurant of the year.

Visit Newquay Tourist Information Centre was awarded gold in the visitor information service of the year category and the Isles of Scilly Tourist Information Centre won silver.

The Ivy House bed and breakfast in St Austell was awarded bronze in the B&B Guest House of the Year award.

Hendra Holiday Park in Newquay received a gold award in the holiday park of the year and Martha’s Orchard at Constantine Bay was awarded bronze.

Lydcott Glamping near Looe was awarded gold in the glamping business of the year while Pengelly Retreat at Leedstown near Hayle won bronze.

PK Purthcurno won gold in the small visitor attraction of the year and Hangloose Adventure Eden at the Eden Project was awarded silver.

Experience Cornwall Tours was awarded silver in the experience of the year section.

Polmanter Touring Park received a bronze award in the camping and caravanning park of the year category.

Mother Ivey’s Bay Holiday Park at Trevose Head, Padstow took bronze in the ethical, responsible and sustainable tourism award.

Budock Vean Hotel near Falmouth was awarded bronze in the large hotel of the year.

Lappa Valley Railway won silver in the large visitor attraction of the year category.

Treworgey Cottages in Looe received silver in the self catering accommodation of the year award and Three Mile Beach in St Ives awa awarded bronze.

Mullion Cove Spa won silver in the spa and well-being experience of the year while The Spa at Gwel An Mor at Portreath was awarded bronze.

Rebecca Hedges from Bodmin Jail was among the winners of the unsung hero award.

Susan Deakin, the manager of Visit Newquay Tourist Information Centre, said: “We are really pleased and honoured to have won Gold especially as we were up against some really impressive competition. 

“Without Newquay Town Council supporting us and our members advertising we wouldn’t have been able to do this, so would like to thank them for their continued support. 

“It is a great achievement for Newquay to be recognised in these prestigious awards. Also seeing other Newquay businesses       Hendra Holiday Park and Lappa Valley winning awards congratulations to them too.”

Robin Barker, the director of services for Tourism Ltd, who manage the awards, added: “What a delight to be in the company of the region’s best, and at one of our most iconic venues.  

“The conversations and celebrations were a real joy – I wouldn’t have missed it for the world.”
