CORNISH private care provider, Swallowcourt, have been awarded the Dementia Carer Award in the Great British Care Awards SW Region finals, held in Bristol.
The Great British Care Awards, now running for 17 years, are a series of regional events held across the UK that celebrate excellence in the care sector, paying tribute to those who have demonstrated outstanding merit within their field of work.
Swallowcourt is the largest private care provider in Cornwall employing over 400 people across six residential homes and has been established over 40 years.
“We are absolutely delighted to have received the Dementia Carer Award as recognition of the quality of dementia care in our homes,” comments Kim Panhurst, Swallowcourt Managing Director.
“Our holistic approach has led to a better understanding of the triggers and risks factors and more importantly the provision of a better standard of living for those we care for.”
This Dementia Carer award recognises those who demonstrate the specific and complex skills required to manage and deliver services that are sensitive to the needs of older people with dementia.
The team at Swallowcourt demonstrated a clear understanding of dementia and their ability to provide person-centred care that respects each individual’s uniqueness.
Management and staff have worked hard to review policies, align procedures, increase training and develop new nationally recognised techniques.
The judges commented: “The Swallowcourt team have shown an impressive commitment to creating an environment that truly empowers their staff.
“By investing in “train the trainer” programmes and embedding best practice, they’ve fostered a culture of learning, reflection, and continuous improvement.”
