AN art initiative to paint doors throughout Newquay to help brighten up the town is in full swing.
Various artists have been creating artworks for Newquay BID’s new Door Art Tour scheme, which will stretch across town from Headland Road to Cliff Road.
The designs will connect with the larger murals already created as part of the MUQY Newquay Street Art Walking Tour to encourage visitors to explore more of the town centre while adding “colour, creativity and vibrancy.”

Newquay BID is seeking a minimum of 20 businesses willing to volunteer a door that an artist can transform into a unique piece of art.
Artists are matched with participating businesses and agree the final concept collaboratively.
The artist behind the winning door mural will receive a £1,000 cash prize.

Newquay BID manager Mark Warren said: “The talented artists have been out making the most of the recent beautiful weather and bringing their doors to life in around the town centre.
“It is fabulous seeing local artists being creative. We have doors and walls just exploding with creativity throughout the town and from one end to the other. It really is an exciting project.
“The artists are really engaging with us and the businesses because they just want to be part of the art initiative.
“The ambition is to join up the larger murals with the smaller murals to create an even more interesting trail. We're looking for artists, doors and smaller walls for the scheme. It is a competition, and a public vote will crown our winner, which is coming soon.
“It will be a tough one to judge but if I'm honest, most of the artists are just thrilled to be able to take part in it and having a lot of fun and engagement with the public whilst they're doing their work.
“The art initiative is all about driving footfall out of season throughout the year and adding vibrancy in the town. People will be able to follow the mural trail around town, linking into the wider mural route, which will be perfect for a wander, a coffee stop, and discovering hidden gems while supporting local businesses.
“We’ve got a very creative group of artists in and around Newquay and they're really expressing themselves in a big way.
“I think, for me, a lot of the door and wall art pieces are very different like the larger murals. It creates conversation and interest.
“We've got a lot more door art that will be springing up over the next two to three weeks.
“We’re still hearing from artists and business owners who’d love to take part. We can’t wait to see even more murals pop up.
“Once all the door murals are finished, we’ll be adding QR codes to each of them so people can learn about the artists behind them.
“I would like to thank our amazing local artists who’ve volunteered their skills to bring creativity to life across the town.”
