A public toilet for the disabled overlooking Fistral Beach has closed temporarily after camper van waste was reportedly illegally emptied into the facility.

Newquay Town Council says it is working to reopen the accessible toilet at Esplanade as soon as possible.

A council spokesperson said: “Unfortunately, the accessible toilet at Esplanade is temporarily closed due to camper van waste being illegally emptied into the facility, causing a blockage in the drainage system.

“This is not a permanent closure and we are working to re-open the facility as soon as the drains have been cleared.

“We kindly ask all motorhome and camper van users to dispose of waste responsibly and use designated disposal points. Continued misuse of this facility could lead to longer-term closures, affecting those who rely on it most.”
