HELLO readers, deputy mayor here standing in for mayor Cllr Drew Creek who is hopefully having a great time away with the family.
I’ve just returned home after the Newquay VJ Day remembrance service held at the War Memorial at the top of Dane Road. Set at a stunning location with an eternal blue sky and sea backdrop, it was a hot 30 minutes. This momentary petty discomfort though really brought home the grim conditions and struggles that brave individuals endured. The sacrifice they made was huge and must not be forgotten. I was humbled to stand with Newquay’s veterans listening to those personal individual tales of gallantry.
Thinking out loud, it would be amazing to accrue those stories, to share and not to become lost. Watch this space as to how the town could come together to achieve this.
The other important event that has been happening is all our wonderful young people gaining their various qualifications. Hopefully, they will enable an exciting future life pathway and lead to extraordinary things. Coming from an education profession, teaching A Levels and IB for 30 years, I really appreciate the hard work that goes into these achievements, congratulations and well done to you all!
