AN apartment complex in Newquay town centre has been left in a precarious position following a rockfall.
A section of cliff has come away underneath the outdoor area of flats in Cliff Road and fallen onto the beach below at Great Western, which has been fenced off as a safety precaution.

The cliff has also come away near to the outdoor eating area at the Secret Garden. The management team say they plan to fence off the area during the New Year’s Eve celebrations, where many people gather to watch the fireworks.
A business owner said: “I would say that area needs immediate work. A structural engineer should be looking at it. The cliff should be there, and it is not there now. Most of the flats in the apartment are holiday lets though there could be people living in them now.”

Scott Brophy, the manager of the Secret Garden, says no representatives from Cornwall Council has visited the restaurant to give any safety advice as yet.
Mr Brophy said: “I’m aware rocks have fallen from the cliff. A customer came in after being on the beach to notify us but we’ve had no one from the council saying anything about it.
“Due to the time of the year, we don’t have customers eating out in the outdoor area but we’re expecting people to go out there on New Year’s Eve.
“Safety is our top priority so for now will close off the top of the garden and customers can watch the fireworks over the bay from further back.”
Cornwall Council has been approached for comment.
