A DEFIANT aid worker from Newquay is on her way to Palestine to deliver humanitarian aid after allegedly being kidnapped at gunpoint during the first attempt.

Katy Davidson is part of the Global Sumud Flotilla mission taking medicine, food and toys to help people in the war-torn country.

As we went to press, 54 vessels were off the Turkish coast and around three days away from Palestine.

She said: “I’m feeling quite defiant. I feel stronger than ever.

“One of the boats has previously got through the blockade so it’s not impossible.

“We have more boats this time and they are a diminished force this time due to the Iran war, having to deal with Lebanon and the situation in the Strait of Hormuz.

“Even if we don’t get through this movement will raise awareness of what is happening in Gaza. There are atrocities every single day despite the ceasefire.”

Katy was previously in international waters off the coast of Greece when several of the vessels in the 47-strong flotilla she was part of were reportedly illegally intercepted by the Israeli navy after being surrounded by dozens of drones, speedboats, and large military warships.

Twenty-one vessels were said to have been boarded during a night-time operation, with dozens of participants taken into custody, including Katy.

Katy says she was taken onboard a supply ship and held in one of the shipping containers which were stacked together covered in razor wire to create a yard.

She said: “I had 36 hours of brutal treatment.

“We lost 21 boats in international waters. My boat sank to the bottom of the ocean. They slashed the sails, and the boat was left in a storm.”

Katy’s mother Lynn Davidson said: “Katy is determined to continue the mission. They are very brave people.”
