Staff at Trewithen Dairy are celebrating after agreeing with Tesco to sell its award-winning butter in 165 additional stores.
The family-owned company began crafting dairy products at Greymare Farm in the Glynn Valley nearly 30 years ago.
With 250 staff, it has been supplying its salted butter to 208 South West Tesco stores, but the new contract means it is now expanding to stores as far afield as Oxfordshire, Berkshire, Hampshire, Surrey and Windsor. This will increase the company’s butter output by 26 tonnes each year, with a total of 500 tonnes produced annually.
Francis Clarke, director at Trewithen Dairy, said: “We’re thrilled to expand the brand further.
“We’re continuing to grow at an exciting pace, which has opened up more opportunities for local farmers to supply milk to Trewithen.”
Trewithen Dairy’s salted butter was crowned Champion of the 2021 Taste of the West’s dairy category and received two stars in the same year’s Great Taste Awards – one of 10 percent of 14,113 entries to receive this rating.
Francis added: ““The butter is enhanced further with the addition of Cornish sea salt, which is hand-harvested from the ocean waters west of the Tamar.
Gemma Cruickshank, Tesco local buyer for England, said: “Our partnership approach means we develop long-term relationships with our suppliers.”
