ONE customer will experience a golden moment at a superstore in Helston tomorrow (Saturday, September 6).
Shoppers at the Tesco store on Clodgey Lane are being given the chance to draw a golden token in a lucky dip.
The person who pulls out the special token will then be able to decide which of three schools will receive a Tesco Golden Grant of £5,000.
The lucky dip is scheduled for between noon and 1pm and the store is planning to create a party atmosphere for the occasion.
The schools hoping to be chosen are Flushing Church of England Primary School on the Roseland Peninsula, Nansloe Academy in Helston and Mawnan Church of England Primary School in Mawnan Smith, near Falmouth.
The school at Flushing is planning to update an area where the early years pupils have their playtimes. Nansloe Academy is aiming to improve and refresh its story garden, and the Mawnan Smith school is looking to fill its new library with nature books and buy seeds, tools and bug-hunting kits for its garden and wildlife reserve.
The event is part of Tesco’s £8-million Stronger Starts programme which supports children and young people.
Store manager Nick Mill said: “We are delighted to be hosting Golden Grants this Saturday. Our store colleagues will be creating a party atmosphere for an event which will see a lucky customer get the chance to award a £5,000 grant to a fantastic local cause.
“Tesco’s Stronger Starts programme has a fantastic track record of helping local schools, charities and community groups in the area and we look forward to giving customers the chance to help continue that great work on Saturday.”
There will be 107 stores taking part in Saturday’s Golden Grants event across the UK, which will see a total of more than £500,000 awarded to school projects.
