A 16-YEAR-OLD boy has been remanded into youth detention after being charged with raping a vulnerable young woman in Newquay.

The teenager appeared before Taunton Magistrates' Court on Wednesday, September 2.

He has been charged with three counts of rape of a girl aged under 16 one count of rape of a woman aged 16 or over, one count of non-fatal strangulation and one count of assault causing bodily harm.

A 17-year-old boy from Somerset, who also went before the magistrate, was remanded into youth detention charged with three counts of rape of a girl aged under 16, one count of non-fatal strangulation and one count of assault causing actual bodily harm.

The alleged offences happened at addresses in North Somerset, western Somerset, and in Cornwall.

Legally, neither boy can be named due to their age. Both boys' self-defined ethnicity is white British. They have been remanded into youth detention pending a further hearing at Taunton Crown Court on Friday, September 25.
