ELLEN GIBSON, 24, of Ropery Close, Kilham, Driffield has been given a 23-week prison sentence, suspended for two years, after she was found to be responsible for two animals which died at Trekenning Tourist Park, Newquay between December 2024 and April 2025. She changed her plea to guilty on charges of causing a Labrador known as Chance and a cat known as Casper to suffer unnecessarily and permitting it to happen or failing to prevent another person causing the animals to suffer. She also pleaded guilty to, together with JORDAN WOOD, causing unnecessary suffering to Chance by failing to provide prompt and effective treatment veterinary care for his head injuries. She was ordered to have treatment for her mental health, to pay £1000 costs and a £154 surcharge. She was disqualified from owning or keeping any animal for 15 years.

Wood was jailed for 18 months and banned from keeping animals for life when he was sentenced last month.

CARLOS FERREIRA, 49, of Caudledown Mill Court, Higher Bugle pleaded guilty to making 32 category A images, nine category B and 18 category C indecent images of a child and distributing category A and C images of a child in September 2025. He was committed to Truro Crown Court for sentence on 8 October and was released on conditional bail not to have unsupervised contact with children under 18 with some exceptions.

GREGG NORTON, 45, of Penhale Road, Penwithick pleaded not guilty at Truro Crown Court to being a care worker engaging in sexual activity with a ‘mentally disordered’ female in September 2023. As a recovery support worker, he is alleged to have known his victim had a disorder but touched her in a sexual way involving the penetration of her vagina with his fingers. He will stand trial on 12 April for this. He pleaded guilty to inciting her to masturbate his penis and was released on conditional bail not to contact his victim.

DYLAN CLEAVE, 18, of Pleasant View Farm, St Ive pleaded not guilty at Truro Crown Court to raping a woman at Liskeard on 5 and 6 August, strangling her on 5 August and assaulting her at St Ive between 3 and 6 August. He was remanded in custody and his trial fixed for 10 February.

DEAN NASH, 43, of Beacon View Park, Illogan was found guilty at Truro Crown Court of raping and sexually assaulting a 15-year-old boy at Liskeard in 2022. He was sent to prison for seven years and made subject to a restraining order not to contact his victim until further notice.

STEPHEN EDWARDS, 46, of Clifton Street, Exeter pleaded not guilty at Truro Crown Court to engaging in controlling/coercive behaviour between 2023 and 2026. He is alleged to have used violence, caused damage, humiliated and degraded his victim and controlled and monitored her movements. He also pleaded not guilty to stealing her laptop on 12 August but admitted breaking a bail condition on 10 September by contacting his alleged victim. His trial was fixed for 27 January and he was released on conditional bail not to contact his alleged victim or enter Cornwall except for on one occasion to pick up his belongings from Port Issac whilst in the company of a police officer.

JOHN HALE, 38, of Jubilee Close, St Columb pleaded not guilty at Truro Crown Court to assaulting a woman at Helston on 15 August and, on 16 August, threatening her with a knife and threatening to kill her, wounding her with intent to do grievous bodily harm and strangling and suffocating her. He was remanded in custody and his trial fixed for 3 February.

JAMIE SEDGMAN, 41, of Roche Road, Bugle pleaded guilty to assaulting a man and causing £500 worth of damage to the Co-operative window at Truro and breaching a criminal behaviour order by acting in a matter that caused a person to fear for their safety on 15 September; on 14 September at Truro, being in possession of an open container of alcohol in breach of an order made on 4 July and assaulting a police officer at City Road, Truro on 13 July. He was committed to Truro Crown Court for sentence on 29 October. Magistrates remanded him in custody because of the nature and seriousness of the offence, he has offended on bail, his previous record and they believed there were substantial grounds he would commit further offences.

JAMIE FIELD, 34, of Alseveor Road, St Austell has been sent to prison for 16 weeks after he pleaded guilty at Truro Crown Court to charges of assaulting a woman and a man at Trevemper, Newquay on 14 April, sending messages that were grossly offensive or of an indecent, obscene or menacing character, stealing a mobile phone and, on 26 May, assaulting a man at Bodmin Hospital. He was made subject to a restraining order not to contact the woman until 15 September 2028. He has to pay his Bodmin assault victim £150.

TAYLOR HAINES, 26, of Wilson Way, Par has been sent to Truro Crown Court to face charges of assaulting two females and strangling one at Aglets Way, St Austell on 11 September and causing £1600 worth of damage to a property at Aglets Way the same day. The case was listed for 16 October and he was released on conditional bail not to contact his alleged victims or go to Aglets Way.

JAYD CLOUGHT0N-KEHOE, 29, of Castle Street, Liskeard pleaded guilty to assaulting a police officer at Truro on 19 November and, at St Austell the same day, damaging a police car. She was given a community order and has to pay £150 compensation.

GEORGINA JOHNSON, 33, of Lynher Drive, Saltash who had pleaded not guilty to assaulting a man at Duchy Agricultural College in September 2024 had the case dismissed when the prosecution offered no evidence. She was made subject to a restraining order not to contact her alleged victim, post about him on social media or attend an address in Plympton until 13 September 2028.

JOHN TOSH, 49, of Coronation Terrace, Ilfracombe pleaded not guilty at Truro Crown Court to assaulting a woman at Kingsand on 8 August and assaulting her occasioning actual bodily harm between 1 July and 9 August. His trial was fixed for 19 March and he was released on conditional bail not to contact his alleged victim, to live and sleep in his room at Ilfracombe with an 8pm to 8am curfew and not to enter Cornwall or Plymouth.

RICHARD MARSHALL, 20, of Winston Avenue, Plymouth pleaded guilty to assaulting a man at Fore Street, Torpoint on 12 March and stealing goods from the Co-op in Torpoint the same day. He was given a 14-month conditional discharge and ordered to pay his assault victim £200 compensation.

THOMAS STONE-PARREN, 31, of Fore Street, St Stephen has been sent to Truro Crown Court charged with failing to stop after an accident on the B3279 which resulted in a woman having a suspected broken eye socket and facial bruising, causing serious injury by dangerous driving, driving a VW Transporter at St Columb on 11 September with 80 micrograms of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath exceeding the limit of 35 and driving whilst disqualified and without insurance. He was remanded in custody and his case listed for 6 October.

RYAN WALSH, 35, of NFA, Newquay has been sent to prison for 12 weeks after he pleaded guilty to breaching a restraining order by, when he was at HM Prison Guys Marsh between 3 and 12 August, calling a woman 308 times which he was prohibited from doing, being in an area of St Columb Minor he was prohibited from being in on 8 and 12 September and breaching the order on 6 September at Sailors Nightclub in Newquay when he spoke to a woman he was prohibited from contacting. Magistrates noted Walsh has a flagrant disregard for court orders with deliberate breaches. They amended the restraining order to include not to contact the woman directly or indirectly, enter St Columb Minor, not to enter an address in Calshot Close, Newquay or threaten physical harm, intimidate, harass or pester a woman until 15 July 2028.

DAVID WALKER, 45, of Tredragon Road, Mawgan Porth pleaded not guilty at Truro Crown Court to harassing a woman putting her in fear of violence at Newquay on 9 April when he is alleged to have possessed an axe on Century Place and sent her threatening messages. His trial was fixed for 14 April and he was released on conditional bail not to contact a man or a woman or go to an area on a map which includes Lewarne Road, Century Court, Henver Road and St Columb Minor. He pleaded guilty to stealing a figurine and damaging a van, motorhome and windows to the value of £22,000 belonging to a man at Newquay on 9 April.

ALFIE LEWIS, 18, of Downside Close, Newquay pleaded guilty to possessing a kitchen knife at Mount Wise Newquay on 19 May. He was given a two-year conditional discharge and has to pay a £26 surcharge and £85 costs.

JAYDEN DREW ADRIAN, 19, of Keryor Close, St Austell pleaded guilty to threatening a man with a large machete type knife at Trevail Way, St Austell on 18 April. He was committed to Truro Crown Court for sentence on 8 October.

LEWIS ISAACS, 24, of Cosgarne Hall, St Austell pleaded guilty to possessing a steak knife at Royal Cornwall Hospital, Truro on 22 July and damaging a police van. He was given a community order and must have treatment for his alcohol use, pay the police £109.46 compensation, a £114 surcharge and £85 costs.

CHRISTOPHER COSSLETT, 40, of Crescent Road, Sarn, Bridgend changed his plea to guilty at Truro Crown Court on a charge of, on 21 May 2025 at Looe, sending a message to a woman threatening death or serious harm which was to slit her throat. He was given a 14-month prison sentence, suspended for two years, has to do 100 hours unpaid work and must have treatment for his alcohol use. He was made subject to a restraining order not to contact his victim or go to an address in Crumplehorn until 15 September 2033.

DEBORAH GRANT, 58, of The Pine Lodge Hotel, Henver Road, Newquay pleaded guilty to using threatening behaviour towards a person and damaging a window at Alverton Kebab House in Penzance on 2 April. She will be sentenced on 14 October and was released on conditional bail not to go to Alverton Kebab House or loiter near it.

JAMES THORNTON, 42, of Trewhiddle Court, St Austell pleaded guilty to using threatening behaviour at St Austell Bus and Railway Station on 1 April, breaching a criminal behaviour order at Moorland Road, St Austell on 18 July by threatening to stab people and, at St Austell on 27 July, when he was drunk and in possession of an open container of alcohol in a public place and to using threatening behaviour towards a woman at St Austell on 20 and 24 March and 1 April. He was given a community order and has to do 100 hours unpaid work and must have treatment for his alcohol use and his mental health and pay £85 costs. His unpaid work hours were reduced because he had spent seven weeks in custody. He was found not guilty of possessing an offensive weapon, namely a hammer, on Pentewan Valley Trail on 27 July.

NATALIE HAYNES, 35, of Owners Accommodation, The Queens Head, North Street, St Austell and the Queens Head, The Square, St Stephen pleaded guilty to fraud by false representation when, between November 2023 and January 2024, she took money and set up credit intending to make a gain financially and in property. She also pleaded guilty to stealing a mobile phone and bank and gift cards from a woman in St Austell in November 2023 and breaching a criminal behaviour order on 30 July when she attended an address on North Street, St Austell without prior agreement and asked the resident for money and attended a property at Market Hill, St Austell on 23 July without prior agreement and asked the resident for money. The order had been made by Plymouth magistrates in July 2017. She was given a 27-week custodial sentence, with 17 weeks imprisonment, which was suspended for 12 months. Magistrates noted she had previous breaches of a criminal behaviour order in 2022 and a considerable previous record of offending. She was ordered to pay the owner of the phone £200 compensation, a £154 surcharge and £85 costs.

LUKE KELSEY, 40, of Vernon Close, Coventry pleaded guilty at Truro Crown Court to possessing diamorphine with intent to supply at Callington in 2023 and acquiring £2030 criminal property ie cash. He was sent to prison for four years.

LUKE HAWKEN, 44, of NFA, Bugle pleaded guilty to driving dangerously, failing to stop for police and having no vehicle insurance on Lostwithiel Road, Bodmin on 5 November. He was given a sentence of 48 weeks imprisonment with an immediate custodial sentence of 29 weeks, banned from driving for five years and 203 days and he will have to take an extended test to get his licence back. Magistrates gave the custodial sentence and activated a suspended sentence because he drove dangerously at excessive speeds and only stopped when a stinger was deployed. They noted he has a ‘horrific record’ of driving offences and engages minimally with the Probation Service. He also pleaded guilty to stealing a CCTV camera from The Park Medical Centre at St Austell in September 2025 and five packs of Cherry B and four packs of Babycham from Iceland in St Austell on 20 October. He was ordered to pay £300 compensation to the Health Centre and £56 compensation to Iceland.

JON FITZHUGH, 39, of Pengover Close, Liskeard pleaded guilty to driving whilst disqualified and using a vehicle without a MOT at Camborne on 5 December; driving whilst disqualified and without insurance at Holmbush Road, St Austell on 16 May; driving whilst disqualified and using a fraudulent registration mark at Redruth on 3 June; driving whilst disqualified and without insurance at Camborne on 5 June; driving whilst disqualified and with 91 micrograms of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath, exceeding the limit of 35, on Heathlands Road, Liskeard on 28 August. He also pleaded guilty to making off without paying for £103 worth of diesel from a petrol station at Redruth on 3 June. He was given a 12-week prison sentence, suspended for two years. Magistrates noted he has a flagrant disregard for court orders, that he had committed a number of driving offences in breach of a court order and it is his third drink/drug drive offence. He was ordered to do 150 hours unpaid work, banned from driving for three years and has to pay £103 compensation.

ARCHIE MAULE, 21, of Wilson Close, Newquay pleaded guilty to driving on the A3058 between Summercourt and Newquay on 26 August with 81 micrograms of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath exceeding the limit of 35. He was banned from driving for 21 months which will be reduced by 21 weeks if he completes a course, fined £475 and ordered to pay a £190 surcharge and £85 costs.

THOMAS HURLEY, 47, of Figgy Road, Quintrell Downs pleaded guilty to driving on Stret Morgan Le Fey, Newquay on 13 January with 32 micrograms of cocaine per litre of blood exceeding the limit of ten, 8.5 micrograms of cannabis per litre of blood exceeding the limit of two and possessing 7g of cannabis. He was given a community order and must do 250 hours unpaid work, was banned from driving for 29 months and has to pay a £114 surcharge and £85 costs.
