FRAUD
EZEKIAL PHILLIPS, 30, who was living in St Dennis at the time he committed the offences, was sentenced to 18 months in prison at Truro Crown Court after he pleaded guilty to 13 counts of fraud by false representation. The court heard he stole £38,000 from people in the St Austell area in 2018 and 2019 on the pretence that he was a successful hedge fund manager. A proceeds of crime hearing will take place at Truro Crown Court in July to determine how much and how he will repay his victims.
BRENDAN SELF, 27, of Jago Close, Liskeard pleaded not guilty at Truro Crown Court to a charge of fraud by false representation when he was alleged to have used someone else’s bank card to make a number of fraudulent cash withdrawals and purchases without his consent intending to gain £25,320 for himself at Saltash between November 2021 and June 2022 at Saltash. His trial has been fixed for 8 December.
DANGEROUS DOG
CARLOS PLANT, 44, of NFA, St Austell has been banned from keeping a dog for ten years at Truro Crown Court, given a 12-month prison sentence suspended for two years and ordered to pay £1,000 compensation after he was found guilty at Truro Crown Court of being in charge of a dog, an XL Bully, which was dangerously out of control in St Blazey in November 2022 and which injured a woman in her home.
ASSAULT
JAKE WILLS, 19, of New Molinnis, Bugle pleaded not guilty at Truro Crown Court to burglary with intent to inflict grievous bodily harm at a property in Wallace Road, Bodmin in July 2023. His trial was fixed for 8 December and he was released on conditional bail.
BAY MCGILL-LOMOND, 31, of Trevail Way, St Austell pleaded guilty to assaulting two police officers on Trevail Way on 25 October. He was made subject to a community order and must abstain from alcohol until 22 July and was ordered to pay £100 compensation to each of the officers and fined £200.
SOPHIE JASPER, 23, of NFA, St Austell failed to turn up to court to answer charges of assaulting a police officer on East Hill, St Austell and possessing cannabis on 2 March. A warrant was issued for her arrest.
THOMAS WARE, 34, of Sylvan Close, St Austell pleaded guilty to assaulting a woman occasioning her actual bodily harm outside St Austell bus and railway station on 23 March. He was given a 28-week prison sentence suspended for 18 months. Magistrates noted he had used his head as a weapon. He was ordered to have treatment for his mental health and drug use and has to pay a £154 victim surcharge and £85 costs.
FRANCIS OSBORNE, 69, of Polgrean Place, St Blazey pleaded not guilty at Truro Crown Court to racially aggravated common assault and assaulting a man at St Austell last September. His trial will be on 22 October.
JAMIE TIMMS, 26, of Bethan Drive, Wadebridge pleaded guilty to assaulting a woman in Bodmin on 18 September and to driving without due care and attention on Longfair Road, Bodmin. He was released on conditional bail and the case adjourned until 13 June.
SEX OFFENCES
BENJAMIN FROST, 37, of Tregeagle Road, Roche pleaded guilty at Truro Crown Court to making the most serious category A images of a child between July 2023 and February 2025 at his home in Roche and to breaching a sexual harm prevention order by the way he was accessing the internet when he was subject to restrictions which he did not meet. He was sent to prison for 15 months and the order which he breached was extended until October 2035.
STEVEN VALENTINE, 48, of Trevarthian Road, St Austell has been sent to prison for two years and six months after he pleaded guilty to seven sex charges at Truro Crown Court. The offences took place in Launceston in 2021 and included inciting a 13-year-old girl to engage in a sexual activity involving penetration and making indecent images of children including the most serious category A. He was also made subject to a ten-year sexual harm prevention order limiting his use of the internet.
ADAM PARRY, 37, of Southbourne Road, St Austell was found guilty at Truro Crown Court of three charges of raping a woman in St Austell in 2014 and four charges of sexual assault. He will be sentenced on 7 May and was given conditional bail not to go to an address in Par or contact his victim and put on a 7pm to 7am curfew.
JOSHUA BEST, 30, of Roslyn Close, St Austell pleaded not guilty at Truro Crown Court to raping a woman in St Austell in June 2022. His trial will be on 7 November.
STEPHEN BROWN, 64, of Carnkie, Helston was found guilty at Truro Crown Court of one charge of rape and four of indecent assault against a girl under the age of 16 – some of the offences took place in Rame. Sentence was adjourned.
SIMON TANTON, 43, of Rapson Road, Liskeard has been sent to Truro Crown Court charged with ten sexual offences against a child as young as six. They include indecently assaulting by penetration a 11-year-old girl and gross indecency. The case was listed for 23 May and he was released on conditional bail.
DANGEROUS DRIVING
NATHAN DRUGAN, 35, of Pentre Close, Roche changed his plea to guilty when he appeared at Truro Crown Court on a charge of dangerous driving in a BMW on St Benets Close, Lanivet in December 2022. He was given a 12-month prison sentence, suspended for two years, and must do 200 hours unpaid work. He was banned from driving for 12 months and must pass an extended test and was made subject to a restraining order not to contact a man or go to Curtice Close, St Austell until April 2030.
HARASSMENT
CONNOR MCAULEY, 33, of Henver Road, Newquay pleaded guilty to breaching a restraining order imposed by Truro Crown Court by being in the company of a woman he was banned from seeing in Newquay on 20 April. He was sent to prison for 18 weeks because it was a deliberate third breach and his previous non-compliance with community-based orders. He also has to pay £85 costs.
DARREN TREGIDGA, 50, of Codling Close, St Austell pleaded guilty to breaching a restraining order on 8 and 14 April by being in the company of a woman he was prohibited from contacting and to being drunk and disorderly on Pellymounter Road, St Austell on 23 April. He was sent to prison for eight weeks.
DOMESTIC VIOLENCE
KIERAN PEDLAR, 37, of Rhind Street, Bodmin was made subject to a 28-day domestic violence protection notice on 20 April not to contact or threaten a woman or go to premises in St Leonards, Bodmin.
MARK MORRIS, 45, of Hinkley admitted breaching a domestic violence protection order by going to Saltash on 16 April - a place he was prohibited from visiting. He was sent to prison for four weeks because it was a deliberate breach and he has a historically poor record of complying with court orders particularly domestic violence protection orders.
THREATENING BEHAVIOUR
ERIC ALEXANDER, 35, of Robartes Road, Newquay pleaded not guilty to using threatening behaviour at Newquay Police Station on 15 September. He pleaded guilty to damaging a police van and cell in the custody suite on 23 July. The case was adjourned until 24 October.
KEVIN LOWN, 50, of NFA, Newquay and St Austell pleaded guilty at Truro Crown Court to using threatening behaviour towards a PCSO at Camborne in February and towards a police officer in Fore Street, St Austell in March by clenching his fists and swearing at him. He was sent to prison for a month.
CRIMINAL DAMAGE
CRAIG VARLEY, 39, of Lanchard Green, Liskeard pleaded guilty to damaging a window at Llawnroc Ventures in Liskeard in August 2023. He was given a 12-month conditional discharge and ordered to pay £750 compensation.
BREACH OF ORDER
LUCY WADMAN, 41, of Blowinghouse Close, St Austell has had a warrant for her arrest issued after she failed to comply with the requirements of a suspended sentence.
DARREN CHURCH, 50, of Boxwell Park, Bodmin pleaded guilty to breaching a criminal behaviour order at Gilbert Road, Bodmin on 10 February by entering a property he was prohibited from entering. He was given a six-month custodial sentence.
LIAM SMITH, 21, of Park View, Liskeard had the case proved that he failed to comply with the requirements of a youth rehabilitation order made by magistrates in July 2021. He was remanded on conditional bail until 8 May to tie up with other cases. He was put on a curfew to remain at his home between 3pm and 7am daily and is not allowed to contact a man and a woman or enter Coldstyle Road or Everly Court, Liskeard.
DRUG POSSESSION
SIMON WILLIAMS,39, of NFA, Liskeard was found not guilty at Truro Crown Court of possessing 0.230g of cocaine at Quay Street, Lostwithiel last August when the prosecution offered no evidence. He was bound over to keep the peace for three months in the sum of £50.
DRUNK
DONTAE ELDRIDGE, 18, of The Cardinal’s Hat, Saltash pleaded guilty to being drunk and disorderly at Newquay Police Station on 29 March. He was fined £80.
DRINK/DRUG DRIVE
JAMES WEBB, 40, of New Street, Bugle pleaded not guilty to attempting to drive a Ford Transit on Lostwithiel Road, Bodmin whilst unfit through drink on 12 March and not guilty to failing to provide a specimen of breath for analysis. He will stand trial on 20 October.
JEFFREY CONNOR, 35, of NFA, Bugle pleaded not guilty to driving on the A30 at Goss Moor on 16 December with 194 micrograms of BZE per litre of blood exceeding the limit of 50. He will stand trial on 3 November.
SARAH THOMAS, 58, of Harmer Close, Bodmin pleaded not guilty to driving on the A30 at Hayle on 28 March with 101 micrograms in 100 millilitres of breath exceeding the limit of 35. She will stand trial on 10 October.
