A WOMAN from Launceston and her partner planned to take their own lives together once they had spent all their money, an inquest has heard.
The court heard how the pair took the decision to take a year off and live off the money they made during the sale of their house and his recent redundancy.
However, in September 2025 Sharon was discovered in her home at South Petherwin, having taken her own life.
The inquest heard how Sharon’s husband – who we have decided not to name – told his brother in 2024 about their plans to live off the money they had until it was gone. He told the inquest the pair would say: ‘When the money is gone, we’ll be gone’.
A statement from Sharon’s brother-in-law told the court how the couple’s finances were waning by September 2025.
The inquest heard how the pair had abandoned their suicide plans on a number of occasions, after cliffside locations had become too busy.
During a phone call to his brother, Sharon’s husband explained how she had decided to alter their plans and end her life in the comfort of their home.
On September 29, 2025, Sharon was discovered to have succeeded in her plans.
In their postmortem, Home Office pathologist, Dr Delaney recorded the cause of death as 1a: suffocation with a plastic bag and the inhalation of helium.
Senior coroner for Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly, Andrew Cox recorded a verdict of suicide.
