THE Coastguard has issued advice after a dog slipped its lead at Holywell Bay on Sunday, which led to five sheep falling from the cliff.

Two of the sheep managed to self-recover following the incident at Kelsey Head at about 12pm but three died.

Newquay Coastguard Search and Rescue Team, Newquay RNLI Lifeboats and RNLI Lifeguards from Holywell Bay attended the incident.

A Coastguard spokesperson said: “We wish to remind dog owners of the importance of keeping your dog on a lead whilst in the vicinity of the coast path, no matter how well trained or behaved they are.

“Not only is there a risk of harm to livestock but we regularly attend incidents where dogs have gone over the edge, many of which prove to be fatal.”
