DOG owners in Cornwall are encouraged to apply for “the best job in the world” – testing and crowning the nation’s ulti-mutt dog-friendly pub.
Online petcare marketplace Rover.com is seeking 11 ‘Rover Tavern Testers’ to embark on a paid summer adventure, helping to sniff out the most dog-friendly pub in the UK. Testers and their furry companions will be paid £1,000 to visit 10 pubs in their local area over a six-week period, assessing them on their dog-friendly amenities - everything from treats and water bowls to atmosphere and staff welcome.
Successful applicants must be 18+ and sociable, enthusiastic dog owners with a well-behaved pooch comfortable in the pub environment. A reliable means of transport is essential, along with a willingness to travel. Applicants should also be digitally savvy, with social media experience and an active account to document their journey through photos, videos and reviews.
New research conducted among 2,000 UK “dog parents” revealed that 78 per cent take their furry best friend to the local, with 60 per cent favouring their pooch as a drinking partner over friends, partner and family. Half of Brits would head out more often if they could bring their dog along.
Unexpected perks include gaining confidence to socialise and meeting new people, while 27 per cent have even enjoyed a free drink thanks to their dog. Nearly two-thirds admit their mutt keeps them in check at the pub, whether it’s a stern “time to go home” look or a gentle nudge towards the door.
“Taking your dog to the pub can be an enjoyable experience for everyone when their needs are properly considered,” says Adem Fehmi, Rover’s canine behaviourist. “It’s important to choose pubs that are genuinely dog-friendly and welcoming - not just places that allow dogs.”
Complete the application form at Rover.com by 6pm Sunday, June 7. Terms and conditions apply.
