THE co-founder of Out of the Woods Play and Creative Arts Therapy CIC will take on an extraordinary physical and symbolic challenge to raise funds for children’s mental health support in Cornwall.

Kerra Hancock will climb the historic 111 steps of Jacob’s Ladder in Falmouth 50 times on Saturday, August 16 in a determined effort to generate donations that will help expand access to therapy and wellbeing services for local children and young people.

Jacob’s Ladder, a Grade II listed stairway built in the 1800s by local businessman Jacob Hamblen, is a familiar sight in Falmouth. Once built to link Hamblen’s properties and business premises, it now stands as a community landmark — and the perfect location for this inspiring feat of endurance.

“This challenge is about raising awareness as much as it is about raising funds,” said Kerra. “Every step I take represents the journey many young people make through therapy — challenging, emotional, and transformational. We want to keep offering these life-changing services, and we need the community’s help to do it.”

Out of the Woods Play and Creative Arts Therapy CIC offers individual and group therapy sessions using play and creative arts, designed to support children and young people to express themselves, overcome emotional difficulties, and develop social and educational engagement.

Their approach is child-centred and trauma-informed, allowing children to work through their experiences at their own pace. The organisation also provides training, courses, and resources for families, educators, and professionals supporting young people.

Their mission is to subsidise therapy sessions for those who may otherwise not be able to afford it.
