A MAN who has run the length of Britain has dedicated his achievement to a young woman in Cornwall.

Nick Peksa set off from John o’Groats in the north of Scotland and ended his epic journey at Land’s End.

On the way he met up with Rosey Gregory, from St Austell, who was seriously injured in a riding accident in 2022 when she was 19.

Rosey has been supported by the Regain sports charity, the cause for which Nick has run.

Nick told the Voice: “This run has been one of the most challenging yet rewarding experiences I’ve ever undertaken – over a thousand miles on foot across Britain from one end to the other.

“I’ve crossed moorland, coastlines, drank from rivers and braved more cow-filled fields than I can count. There have been joyful days, soggy days and the occasional detour through nettles and across barbed wire.

“In the planning stage, when I discussed the route with my dad, he was slightly jealous, not at the scale of the challenge, but at the chance to jog along some of the UK’s most iconic footpaths. It reminded me how lucky I am to have the freedom to do this. And that’s precisely why I chose to dedicate the run to Rosey Gregory.

“Rosey is young, full of character and has faced more adversity than many of us ever will. She lives with a spinal cord injury, yet her energy, determination and sense of humour never waver.

“It was wonderful that, as part of this journey, we met up at the Thruxton race track, where we cycled laps together during a Regain charity event. To have the freedom to do that, to move under your own steam, to feel the wind on your face, is something I’ll never take for granted again.

“This journey ends in Cornwall, a county Rosey calls home and one of the most beautiful regions in the UK. From its wild coastline to quiet inland trails, it’s a place that should be accessible and enjoyable for everyone, regardless of mobility or circumstance. That’s why I’ve been raising funds for Regain, a brilliant charity that supports people with spinal cord injuries to stay active and independent.

“This run has been for me, for Rosey, and to inspire others to step out of their comfort zone – whether that’s walking a little further, trying something new or simply supporting someone else to do so.”

Rosey was a gifted young horse rider whose promising career was cut short by the accident which left her with a severe spinal cord injury. After being thrown from a horse that then slipped and fell onto her, Rosey required life-saving surgery while in a coma and now faces the daily challenges of living with tetraplegia.

Regain has supported Rosey during her recovery, providing her with e-motion wheels to increase her independence. Now money raised by Nick through his run will help fund an electric wheelchair for Rosey.

Regain is dedicated to supporting people who have become tetraplegic through sports-related accidents.
