A CHANCE encounter has led to a newly designed suite at a prominent Newquay hotel.
A new family suite was created at the Headland Hotel after its family director, Veryan Palmer, happened to share a table on the Bodmin to Paddington train with Katharine Lawrie, the founder of British interiors brand Minni Parker.
Each surrounded by fabric samples, Veryan and Katharine quickly realised that Minni Parker and The Headland were a serendipitous match.
Veryan and Katharine have designed the rooms to bring guests the best of British design and sustainability.
The Headland has been trading in understated elegance for generations and Minni Parker is known for bridging the gap between classic and contemporary.
Minni Parker is a textiles and homewares brand with alpine and coastal influences. Drawing on her Austrian heritage, founder Katharine Lawrie, Minni to her family, designs her collection at home in Cornwall, with every piece milled, printed, sewn or painted in England.
Minni Parker’s celebrated distinct fabrics and wallpapers fill the space throughout the room with a soft blend of alpine charm and coastal elegance.
Furniture is handcrafted in England by Still and Bloom using traditional methods and sustainable British materials, all sourced from the West Country.
British-based Get Laid Beds, has created a bespoke bed for the suite upholstered in Minni Parker’s new Landhaus fabric. This is fitted with a Hypnos Harmony mattress, crafted in conjunction with The Eden Project, made of sustainably sourced plant and fruit-based forces and ‘Responsible Wool Standard’ certified British wool.
Artist Andy Pearce, of Saltwalls Gallery in Newquay, was commissioned to produce artwork for the room, following on from his stint as The Headland’s artist in residence in 2024.
A spokesperson for the Headland Hotel said: “With each side of the partnership rooted in family history, and memories of sandy summers on Fistral Beach, this collaboration feels very special.”
