STUDENTS at Camborne Science & International Academy (CSIA) recently took part in a series of impactful workshops focused on safeguarding and healthy relationships, delivered in partnership with Barnardo’s and Devon and Cornwall Police.
Year 9 students completed a six-part programme led by Barnardo’s, one of the UK’s leading children’s charities.
With a focus on supporting vulnerable young people, Barnardo’s works across the country to deliver education, safeguarding, and mental health support in schools and communities.
The workshops at CSIA tackled critical topics including sexting, pornography, and online safety, providing students with the tools to make safe and respectful decisions.
In parallel, Year 8 students took part in a dedicated session delivered by the Devon and Cornwall Police Force.
Officers spoke about what constitutes a healthy relationship, what is not acceptable, and what falls within or outside the law. Students engaged thoughtfully with discussions around consent, peer pressure, and the importance of mutual respect.
These sessions form part of CSIA’s wider ‘Preparation for Life’ curriculum, which equips students with the knowledge and confidence to navigate the challenges of adolescence with integrity and awareness.
Principal Emma Haase said: “At CSIA, we are committed to preparing our students not just for exams, but for life. These workshops are a vital part of that mission, helping young people make informed, respectful choices in an increasingly complex world.
“We're proud to work with expert partners like Barnardo’s and Devon and Cornwall Police to ensure our students are equipped with the knowledge, confidence, and compassion they need to thrive.”
