A St Ives bakery is expanding to provide a gallery showcase for local artists.

The Cornish Bakery in Fore Street is opening up of the building’s upstairs area with significant added seating capacity and an ever-changing art gallery space.

The newly refurbished bakery will officially reopen on Monday, February 12.

The sympathetic expansion to the building will create a more spacious and stylish environment for customers to enjoy their Cornish Bakery experience surrounded by the work of local artists, creatives and makers.

Customers will also be able to purchase the works which will change on a regular basis.

St Ives has long been a renowned hub for artistic inspiration and a muse for creatives, with its breath-taking landscapes and special light.

The town continues to foster a vibrant artistic community, with numerous galleries showcasing a diverse range of contemporary and traditional works.

Given the company’s birthplace in Mevagissey in Cornwall, the team is always keen to showcase the talents, products and artworks of Cornish makers.

The St Ives bakery will be adorned with lights from Cornwall-based Lin Lovekin and Studio Haran alongside inspirational paintings and illustrations from South West-based artists Sophie Harding and William Luz.

The bakery’s exterior colour will remain as India Yellow in keeping with the character of the local area.

Cornish Bakery Founder and Owner, Steve Grocutt said: “After many years in our St Ives bakery we have outgrown it.

“Over time, our brand has changed significantly, our product range has evolved into a more fulsome bakery experience and coffee has become our best seller.

"Under our brand, we are injecting more space and character into our St Ives location, as well as welcoming the new opportunity for business for the local artists and creatives who are so prevalent in this significant area of Cornwall.

“I am confident it will be the premium space and experience for both residents in, and visitors to, the beautiful town of St Ives. Bakery is the new coffee shop, and we are at the forefront of this.

“We’re looking forward to welcoming customers, new and old, into our revamped St Ives bakery.”
