WARNINGS about rip currents have been renewed after two surfers got into difficulty at Crantock Beach on Saturday night.

Emergency services were alerted after the surfers were swept towards rocks at about 7.40pm.

Newquay RNLI lifeboats along with Newquay and St Agnes Coastgurad search and rescue teams attended the scene but both surfers were able to make their own way to the beach.

A Coastguard spokesperson said: “Both casualties self rescued and were checked by Newquay Team to ensure no medical attention was required. All assets were then stood down.

“The incident was a reminder of how quickly rip currents could overwhelm even experienced water users.

“We urge people heading to the coast to use lifeguarded beaches and to check conditions before entering the sea.”
