FIREFIGHTERS battled a blaze involving solar panels on a building in Newquay on Thursday.

Two fire appliances and an aerial ladder platform from Newquay Fire Station attended the incident at Island Crescent at 12.20pm.

Fire crews extinguished the blaze and removed the affected panel with the help of a qualified electrician.

A spokesperson for Cornwall Fire & Rescue Service said: “We attended the incident following a report of a potential fire involving solar panels on the roof of a building.

“Critical Control received a call from the public alerting them to a possible fire involving solar panels on a rooftop. The initial reports indicated that the solar panel system on the property might have caught fire, leading to the immediate mobilisation of fire crews.

“Firefighters quickly secured the area and worked to ensure that the fire was fully extinguished and that there was no further risk posed to the surrounding area.

“The affected panel was removed by fire service personnel, along with a qualified electrician.”
