A CHAT over a cup of tea exciting healthcare network helping people from different teams across Truro Health Park deliver better services.

Tea HP is a voluntary initiative launched in collaboration between primary care providers and NHS trusts. It was the brainchild of child and adolescent mental health service (CAMHS) team manager Henry Lewis, who was inspired by a monthly networking meet at his wife’s workplace.

Participating staff are entered into a random draw each month and paired up to arrange a time and place to meet for tea, cake and a chat. There is no expectation to talk about work; the meeting is designed to be an informal way to foster new connections and create networking opportunities, and to strengthen professional relationships in healthcare and unlock shared learning.

“It takes a bit of bravery to meet someone new, but we cannot ignore the benefits of creating new connections and relationships,” said Henry. “Teams are supported by senior managers to take part, so it really is just waiting on those who are willing to give it a go.”

CAMHS mental health support worker Milena Fajer signed up to Tea HP. “Henry is our team manager,” she said. “He explained his idea, and I thought it sounded amazing. I loved the idea of meeting with other professionals and getting to know new people.”

So far, the project has received great feedback. For some participants, it has increased awareness of services they didn’t know existed. Others said the meet-ups have given them confidence to approach other teams about referrals, advice, guidance and shared insights.

Mid-Cornwall place director Derek Thomas said: "Henry has been so positive and committed to our work in developing our integrated neighbourhood team for Truro - this is just one example. I hope more people sign up, get to know one another and share their diverse experience and knowledge."
