Saturday (April 26) saw Camborne celebrate Trevithick Day, the town’s biggest event of the year, commemorating its most famous son: mining engineer Richard Trevithick, creator of the world's first steam railway locomotive in 1803.
The streets were packed with almost 30,000 appreciative locals and visitors, their enthusiasm undimmed by the soggy weather; and clouds of steam filled the air as gleaming steam engines roared down Basset Street as Trevithick's Puffing Devil would once have done, while dancers of all ages paraded through the town to the delight of onlookers.
Both the Trevithick Day committee and Camborne Town Council thanked one and all for making the event “another very special day for the town”.
