Newquay are expecting a big crowd for Saturday’s match against title-chasing St Blazey, who the Peppermints held to a draw at Blaise Park last midweek.
Talking after Saturday’s excellent 3-0 win at Dobwalls, manager Craig Ainslie told the Voice: “We need the week’s rest but we’ll be ready for a big game at home next Saturday for sure.”
The Dobwalls result followed an excellent performance at Blazey where Jake Shaw gave them a 44th minute lead and it took an Andy Watkins goal four minutes from time to deny them all three points.
Goalkeeper Harry Salmon was a key figure, making a string of fine saves, including one ‘worldie’ to keep out an injury time free kick from River Allen which looked a goal all the way.
St Blazey boss Phil Lafferty said: “We were disappointed to have dropped two points at home of course, but if you fail to turn up for over an hour then teams like Newquay will seize their opportunity.
“We now look forward to visiting them on Saturday where three points will be vital to turn the screw at the top of the league with seven games remaining.”
With five games left in the Premier Division West, Newquay are hot favourites to finish sixth – and may yet overtake Bude, who are fifth with five more points but have played two games more.
