EMMA Paull’s late arrival failed to stop the Hayle Runners star cruise to victory at the Treggy 7 road race on Sunday, September 6.

The event – race 12 out of 15 in the Cornwall Grand Prix Series – is organised by Launceston Road Runners and starts and finishes in the town castle as well as taking in neighbouring village Tregadillett via the famous hill from Underlane.

Despite having to start near the back and work her way through the field, her time of 44:54 was good enough for 19th overall. She was also the only female to finish inside the top 40, while Zelah Morrall’s 48:35 enough for 41st. The top three was rounded off by Looe Pioneers’ Joanne Robinson in 49:11.

Keighley & Craven AC’s Callum James took the overall victory, completing the seven miles in 39 minutes and 37 seconds, one minute and 21 seconds clear of David Crawford (Newquay & Par AC) who took second by just a second from David Tregonning.

On the team front, which counts the best six-placed club members, Hayle comfortably took the female event with four of the top 15 coming from the West Cornwall club, while Tamar Trotters and Newquay Road Runners were second and third respectively.

Hayle also cruised to victory in the male section (85) with Truro Running Club (198) and St Austell Running Club (210) second and third respectively.
