NATIONAL LEAGUE TWO WEST (SATURDAY)
Hinckley 11 Redruth 38
REDRUTH made it back-to-back victories as they saw off strugglers Hinckley in Leicestershire.
The Reds saw off second bottom Macclesfield in their previous encounter, and made the long trip keen to continue the momentum against a side that had won four of their ten games.
The Cornishmen had to play against the slope in the first half, and although they were under the cosh from the start, scored within two minutes as full-back Nathaniel Dart intercepted a pass and ran in 70 metres. Fly-half Dean Wills added the extras.
The hosts continued to apply the pressure but when Redruth did get the ball they looked dangerous. And they doubled their lead on the half hour when centre Sam James went over from close range next to the posts.
Hinckley continued to bash away and two Callum Dacey penalties just before the break ensured Redruth’s lead was down to six at 12-6.
The Reds needed the next score and within five minutes of the restart it came via prop Tommy Phillips, which Wills added to (6-19).
The Reds brought on debutant Barnaby Elderkin and Dan Rutter on 53 minutes before Dart got his second on the hour. Rutter slotted the kick for 26-6.
Although Jack Ramshaw gave Hinckley hope, further tries arrived via Jamie Prisk and winger Bobby Wigginton to earn the Reds a fifth win of the season.
The match between Cinderford and leaders Camborne was postponed due to Storm Bert.
