CAMBORNE have bolstered their front row options for their inaugural campaign in National League One with the signings of Cornishmen Ben Woodmansey and Luke Barnes.

Woodmansey, who was at St Austell before joining the Cherry and Whites before being snapped up by Champ Rugby outfit Cornish Pirates, has decided to leave the Mennaye Field in pursuit of regular game-time.

However, he’ll face plenty of competition, including Barnes who has arrived from neighbours Redruth where he had been a mainstay for several seasons.

Club skipper Jon Drew, who has made more than 200 appearances for the Cherry and Whites, has also committed his future.

He was out injured towards the end of the season, but should be fit come the start of the new campaign in September.

On agreeing to stay, Drew said: “This place feels like home, the boys are like extended family to me and it’s been my point of purpose during some of the toughest personal times, Entering into the most exciting chapter of this club’s rich history, I’m very proud to be a part of it and to be able to add my piece to the jigsaw wherever it may fit.”

Camborne supporters will also be delighted to know that fly-half Rory O’Kane is staying, although he faces some stiff competition following the signing of former Cornwall captain Fraser Honey, while prop and fans favourite Tommy-Lee Southworth, who started his rugby journey in the minis and juniors at the Recreation Ground, is on course to return from injury as he heads into his 11th season of senior rugby.

He added: “I’m pleased to share that I have re-signed and what a journey it’s been from South West One to now National One. Seeing the growth of my hometown club is something I’m very proud of and I can’t wait for the challenge ahead, especially after a long period out with injury.”
