CAMBORNE head coach Tom Kessell feels tomorrow’s trip to Rosslyn Park (3pm) will ‘suit the way we want to play’ as they prepare for their latest National League One encounter.

The Cherry and Whites’ first-ever match in the third-tier saw them win at Leeds Tykes 13 days ago, but were brought back down to earth last Saturday by promotion-hopefuls Plymouth Albion who left the Recreation Ground with a comfortable 32-21 success.

Five points represents a solid start for the Cornishmen who head to South West London to tackle a home side who were thrashed by Albion on matchday one, before bouncing back with an impressive victory at Bishop’s Stortford. They finished fourth last year with 17 wins from their 26 outings.

However, Kessell, who saw his side give away plenty of penalties last weekend, knows they need to improve in that area.

He said: “We need to look at our discipline and try and get on the right side of the referee’s whistle which we haven’t been able to do so far, so we need to be whiter than white and make sure we don’t give away penalty opportunities.

“But we know if we play like we can and how we want to, we can impose ourselves on this league. We’re not here just to try and compete, we want to stamp our authority on games.”

Tomorrow’s clash at the The Rock will be played on a 4G artificial surface which usually means plenty of tries at both ends. Kessell expects an open game.

He continued: “Rosslyn Park won’t be an easy game and they have really good strength in-depth. They were well beaten by Plymouth a couple of weeks ago but bounced back really well last weekend, so they’ll be keen to keep that momentum going.

“We’ll need to try and match them up front, but as I said it’s about us imposing ourselves on them as opposed them on us.

“Yes it’s an away game, but it’s one of our closer ones and the boys are looking forward to it.

“Playing on a 4G can bring its own challenges and they’re far more used to it than us, but it also suits us with the way we play.”

Camborne once again make four changes to the starting XV, including Irish debutant Ben Power who starts at outside-centre in place of Will Hennessy, while former St Austell back Matt Shepherd is fit enough for the bench after a recent injury.

On the alterations, Kessell said: “Ben played really well last week for the seconds at St Ives and with Joel (Matavesi) out injured, it gives him an early opportunity to show what he’s about.

“It’s also great to have Fraser (Honey) back in the mix and it’s nice to have a game controller at 10. Unfortunately Oli (Roberts) has a bit of a toe problem, so Harry Larkins comes in on the wing with Frankie (Nowell) dropping back to 15, while Jago (Sheppard) starts in the second-row alongside Adam Hughes following Jamie Prisk’s injury last weekend.

“It’s also fantastic to have Herbie (Stupple) back and available off the bench, we’ve got more strength in-depth now with the forwards which is always important.”
