Newquay manager Craig Ainslie insists there is still room for improvement from the Peppermints – despite the 8-2 Boxing Day thumping of town rivals Godolphin Atlantic.
Jack Rapsey helped himself to five goals and his striker partner, Alex Cole, bagged a hat-trick with Ben Colquhoun getting Atlantic’s two.
Ainslie told the Voice: “We will still need to be better, especially without the ball, if we want to get results against Bodmin, St Blazey and Liskeard in our next games.
“But we’re confident we can cause problems for any team.”
Reflecting on the Boxing Day rout, Ainslie said: “I was very pleased with the result first and foremost, three points was the primary concern and anything after that was a bonus.
“I felt we were very comfortable first half despite only going in one up. Godolphin were willing runners but there was only so long they could sustain that intensity and we knew second half the gaps would really start to open up.
“Fair play to the lads, they stepped through the gears second half, we asked for a slight tweak tactically and it made all the difference to be fair and truth be told, it could’ve been double figures.
“Rappo and Coley looked like scoring every time they got the ball and were excellent all afternoon.
“I was delighted for the club and the fans to be able to send them home with a big win but there’ll be much tougher tests over the coming weeks.”
Newquay travel to Bodmin on Saturday while Godolphin are at home to Bude Town. Both games kick off at 2.15pm.
